Joe Burrow’s former Ohio State teammates heap praise on The Geauxt
By John Buhler
Joe Burrow’s former Ohio State Buckeyes teammates gave him lofty praise for becoming The Geauxt after winning the 2019 National Championship on Monday.
On Monday night, Joe Burrow became the geauxt. The 2019 Heisman Trophy winner led his LSU Tigers to a perfect 15-0 national championship season by dismantling the Clemson Tigers in the second half, 42-25. Burrow’s college football journey is a remarkable one and one that had humble beginnings as a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Burrow spent his first three years of college ball out of Athens, Ohio playing for Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes.
He was in the same quarterback room with J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones and Dwayne Haskins. All four were immensely talented college football players, so it was hard for Burrow to see the field.
That quarterback room added another national championship with Burrow and Jones sharing the distinction of starting and winning a ring. Both proved a lot of people wrong in the process.
After he completed his undergrad degree, Burrow transferred to LSU after he didn’t win the starting job. Burrow had a solid first year at LSU in 2018, but we had no idea what was coming next in 2019. He threw for nearly 6,000 yards and 60 touchdown passes.
Well, maybe his former Buckeyes teammates knew, as so many praised him on Twitter after seeing their former teammate win a ring.
Former teammates Michael Thomas, Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin who caught a lot of Burrow passes in practices, raved about Burrow’s big night.

Another former Buckeye quarterback who transferred, Tate Martell, hopes for a similar storybook ending to his career after transferring to Miami last season.
Stephen Collier was a part of the quarterback room with Burrow and doesn’t think his friendship is influencing his proclamation that Burrow had the best season ever.
It’s the type of class you’d hope to see. The uniform colors changed but their love and respect for each other don’t. Though it didn’t work out for Burrow in Columbus, it most certainly did in Baton Rouge. How can you not be impressed by his run with the Tigers?
The cool part in all of this is this praise Burrow is getting feels completely genuine. Nobody seems to have a bad thing to say about the guy. His Heisman Trophy speech may go down as the greatest of all time, showing his grace and humility as a native son of Ohio and an adopted one of Louisiana. You can tell that Burrow has positively impacted so many lives in his football career.
Now that Burrow has played his last college football game, the NFL Draft will be the next step for him. He is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. With a season like he had and the character he has shown throughout his football life up to this point, his return to Ohio feels inevitable and one we can’t wait to see unfold.
