Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win in 50 years. Here are all of his best moments from his stellar fourth quarter.
The Kansas City Chiefs have their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years thanks to the heroics of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, beating the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20 on Sunday. Mahomes went 26-of-42, with two touchdowns and two interceptions for 286 yards when all was said and done.
While Mahomes sputtered with the Chiefs offense in the first half of the Super Bowl, the 24-year-old quarterback came alive in the fourth quarter with the Chiefs down 20-10.
After the 49ers challenged a Tyreek Hill catch midway through the fourth quarter that put the Chiefs in a 3rd-and-15 situation after it was overturned. Mahomes connected with Hill on the very next play for a 44-yard gain.
On the Chiefs’ red zone attempt after the bomb to Hill, Mahomes then connected with tight end Travis Kelce to put Kansas City within three points of San Francisco with a little over six minutes to play.
After the Chiefs stopped the 49ers on the next drive, Mahomes came to play once again with a seven-play, 65-yard drive that put Kansas City on top.
First, it was a 38-yard pass play to Sammy Watkins on second down that put the Chiefs into San Francisco territory.
A few plays later on 3rd and 5, Mahomes dropped a dime of a pass to Damien Williams to give Kansas City the 24-20 lead with just under three minutes remaining.
The Chiefs stopped the 49ers on the ensuing drive, giving the ball back to Mahomes and the Kansas City offense. Williams tore off a 38-yard run with over a minute to play, sealing the win for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Mahomes’ pair of touchdowns helped the Chiefs pull off an incredible fourth quarter comeback, stunning the 49ers with their resilience and that trademark Mahomes Magic that will no doubt be the enduring highlight of Super Bowl 54.
