In a recent report from ESPN, NHL Seattle is looking at June for a season ticket sales push, which would likely coincide with the release of the team’s branding.

Hockey fans should hopefully find out the name of the NHL’s 32nd franchise soon, if recent reports are any indication. According to a new report from ESPN on Wednesday, NHL Seattle is “getting close” to revealing the franchise’s name, logo and team colors, among other branding.

The last major update hockey fans heard on Seattle’s progress was in early April, when a report from The Athletic surfaced stating that the franchise was closing in on a reveal date as the team continued to work on the legal side of things. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the world has no doubt shifted Seattle’s plans, though the team still remains on track to play during the 2021-22 season.

“We’re still going through the legal process, led by the league,” Katie Townsend, VP of communications, said to ESPN. “Then it’s just making sure we’re sensitive to the community. We don’t want to be tone deaf. We want to make sure the mood is right.”

Given the lack of sports news at the present time due to the pandemic, NHL Seattle has the real chance of giving hockey fans something positive to talk about during this time. However, it is more than fair to be cognizant of the mood given the circumstances that we are facing in this time.

The report from ESPN also mentions that Seattle NHL is targeting June as a timeframe to push for more season ticket sales, which would likely line up with the release of their team name, logo and color scheme. That is, of course, if the timing is right surrounding Seattle’s battle against the coronavirus.

In late January, a report surfaced suggesting that the name for the NHL’s 32nd franchise would be the Seattle Kraken due to a potential trademark dispute over one of the other frontrunner names, the Seattle Sockeyes. Though there has been no new information as to which way Seattle is leaning when it comes to the name of the franchise, there are other cool names out there that should also be considered in the discussion.

Regardless of what name and color scheme the upcoming Seattle franchise picks, it will no doubt spark debate among hockey fans just as the NHL’s 31st team, the Vegas Golden Knights, did upon their debut.
