Derek Carr just proved he’s the true leader of the Las Vegas Raiders
By Sam Dunn
Derek Carr has lost some shine as franchise QB for the Raiders. Luckily, the latest buzz out of Las Vegas casts him in the best possible light.
The start of Derek Carr’s NFL career was quite the promising one. Year 2 of his tenure with the Raiders produced the first of three straight Pro Bowl nods, and his rapport with top skill guy Amari Cooper was a spirited one. Fast-forwarding to today, however, Cooper is a Cowboy and the Silver and Black are coming off losing records for three years running. A big move from Oakland to Las Vegas does present an opportunity to hit the reset button on the franchise, but only through the hardest of hard work.
Fortunately, Carr is taking it upon himself to lead the way.
If you’re a Raider lifer or Mark Davis, this is exactly what you want and need to see. Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock have proven that no one’s gig is truly safe, and the rumblings about a potential change under center would only grow louder if Carr rode into Sin City with anything but the perfect attitude.
To see him out on the practice field on a totally voluntary basis to rally the troops and forge a new path forward for the franchise, especially considering the peril and uncertainty of these strange days of COVID-19, is as encouraging as it gets.
Carr has gotten an increasingly bad rap, but did you know he’s coming off career bests in yards, completion percentage, and passer rating? Considered along with this latest compelling visual evidence, he’s acquitting himself before our eyes as the talisman the Vegas boys were looking for.
