Does Patrick Mahomes deserve a $200 million deal? Or, is he worth more?

Contract negotiations between Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly begun. Rumors suggest the former MVP and Super Bowl champion could receive a deal worth up to $200 million with an annual total of around $40 million.

If these are the terms the two sides settle on, this would be a historic deal for a player who is primed to continue paving his way as one of the all-time greats.

The ballpark Mahomes and the Chiefs seem to be working in is that $160 to possible even $200+ range.

But, is he worth that type of money? Could he demand even more money if he pressed the team?

Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL. Drafted in 2017, he took over as the starting quarterback in 2018. He broke out immediately and quickly demanded all eyes to be on him.

The Texas native won the MVP that season, throwing for 50 touchdowns and 5,097 yards. In the playoffs, he was a coin toss away from defeating one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history, the New England Patriots, in the AFC Championship Game.

Last year, Mahomes was dealt some adversity. He battled an ankle injury in the early stages of the regular season, and then missed two games after sustaining a knee injury.

However, demonstrating how valuable he is, Mahomes came back strong and had an iconic playoff run. Battling back from double-digit deficits each game, he and the Chiefs ultimately captured the Super Bowl LIV victory.

Mahomes is worth every penny of a possible $200-million deal. Realistically, if he signed for somewhere around $210-240 million, there wouldn’t be too many eyebrows raised.

The 24-yea- old has truly hit his prime yet and yet look at all he has accomplished. In his first two seasons as a starter, he relied more on ability. Now, he is learning more and applying that to his game, which means he has another tier to unlock. Scary.

Since he became a full-time starter in 2018, Mahomes has the most passing scores (76) and third-most passing yards (9,128) in the NFL. His arm talent is unbelievable, he is athletic enough to make plays out of the pocket and scramble, and he is an intelligent quarterback who understands how to move defenders with his eyes.

Mahomes is arguably the league’s best gunslinger, and he is absolutely worth $200 million.
