Reggie Bush isn’t lying, he wants his Heisman Trophy back
By John Buhler
Reggie Bush would like to have his 2005 Heisman Trophy back, please.
Reggie Bush is back in the good graces with the USC Trojans.
The former USC football star had his disassociation from the university lifted on Wednesday morning after 10 long years. 2017 NCAA legislation forbid disassociations from universities for any period longer than 10 years. Now that the former running back sensation can go back to his alma mater without any issues, can we please get the man his Heisman Trophy back?
On Wednesday’s episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Bush was asked by the iconic sports talk radio host about if he wants his Heisman Trophy back. Here is what Bush told his FOX Sports colleague, straight up.
“To say that I don’t want the Heisman back would be a lie… Also at the same time, I’m more focused on the kids now because what happened to me is in the past.”
You’re darn right Reggie Bush wants his 2005 Heisman Trophy back!
Bush having to vacate his 2005 Heisman Trophy was unprecedented. While he and his family received improper benefits during his final two years in school, the whole thing felt wrong from the jump. The amount of money USC athletics made off his name, image and likeness was absurd. As Cowherd mentioned, the only other comparable player to Bush with the NIL stuff is Tim Tebow.
Though the scholarship reductions and being placed on probation made sense, vacating wins in college football remains one of the dumbest things the NCAA has ever thought of as a punishment. We all saw the games. USC was incredible during the peak of the Pete Carroll era with Bush as its best player. Don’t try to tell me those games didn’t happen because they did.
Many people believe Bush should have his Heisman Trophy returned to him because it never should have been taken away from him in the first place. As Kirk Herbstreit eloquently stated, he’s the “baddest” player he’s ever covered. Give the man his Heisman Trophy back, you cowards!
It’s really not that hard. Players 15 and 20 years younger than Bush will be able to benefit in ways from name, image and likeness like Bush never could. When Bush starred for USC, they were the hottest ticket in town in the second biggest media market in the country. If you played for USC football, you were a rock star in the early-to-mid-2000s.
College football is better with Bush in the equation, so give him his Heisman back, NCAA.
