Mike Gundy refers to himself a “dumbass” for wearing an OAN t-shirt.

Since when did Mike Gundy discover Red Forman’s go-to seven-letter word?

It might be Dad Week at FanSided, but this dad is in some hot water for a OAN t-shirt he wore over the weekend fishing at Lake Texoma. The Oklahoma State football program was about to lose the locker room, as players like running back Chuba Hubbard and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga threatened to boycott all things related to the university unless changes were made.

Later that evening after Hubbard and Ogbongbemida had their say on Twitter, the All-American running back and head football coach united for an impromptu PSA to discuss changes would becoming to Oklahoma State football. Gundy then posted what felt like an insincere apology video on Tuesday evening.

Just when you though Oklahoma State Gundy OAN t-shirt videos where over with, we got another on Wednesday evening. This time it was Gundy looking more apologetic than the one on Tuesday. He said he was a “dumbass” for wearing the OAN t-shirt in the first place.

Mike Gundy calls himself a “dumbass” for wearing the OAN t-shirt.

“I didn’t know some of the stances they had taken, I didn’t know that,” said Gundy in an interview with ESPN+. “But then you look at it and say, ‘okay, I was a dumbass’. I put the shirt on not knowing enough about the shirt. I understood exactly why the players got frustrated when they found that out, or however they found out what it was.”

It may have been the third video, but it seems as though Gundy is getting the point finally. Maybe people like ESPN’s Paul Finebaum will ask for him not to be fired? Then again, rumors have surfaced that Gundy reportedly used racial slurs back in his playing days for the Pokes in the late 1980s as their starting quarterback.

Gundy is one of the longest tenured coaches in Division I college football. He took over for Les Miles in 2005 once “The Mad Hatter” went to Baton Rouge to replace Nick Saban as the head coach of the LSU Tigers. Gundy has had success at Oklahoma State. His 2011 team nearly played for a national championship. However, his Pokes are an abysmal 2-13 in the Bedlam Series.

Let’s hope Gundy and the rest of the Oklahoma State program learn and get better from this incident. They have a great shot of winning the Big 12 and reaching the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. Then again, some things are bigger than football. Gundy has replaced Clemson’s Dabo Swinney as the most scrutinized head coach during the BLM movement.

Gundy saying he was a “dumbass” for wearing an OAN t-shirt feels like a positive step forward.
