Vince Young turning down Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy is pure class
Vince Young turned down Reggie Bush’s vacated Heisman Trophy.
It’s been a wild past month for former USC running back Reggie Bush. After being away from the Trojan program for a decade following his now infamous NCAA scandal, his disassociation with the team came to an end in early June.
As part of that scandal, Bush, arguably one of the best college football players to ever hit the gridiron, forfeited his 2005 Heisman Trophy. He won that honor over legendary Texas quarterback Vince Young.
So, when Bush forfeited his Heisman, it turns out the committee reached out to Young to see if he wanted the hardware. He said thanks, but no thanks.
Vince Young gives the stiff arm to Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy.
“I respect and I appreciate him because Vince showed me love that even some of the closest people to me didn’t even show, Bush said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Even some of the people who I’ve built relationships with, friends, you know people who I considered very close friends didn’t even show me the kind of love that Vince Young showed me. It is true. They did try to give him the Heisman Trophy.”
For Young to turn down receiving the Heisman shows just how much of a competitor he is and how classy he is all at the same time. He knows Bush was the best player that season and didn’t want college football’s highest honor just handed to him.
Keep in mind, this all happened after Young’s Longhorns beat Bush’s Trojans to win the national championship. Young could have added even more brilliance to that season, but he declined. Hey, don’t feel bad for him, though. Young has a Manning Award, Maxwell Award and so many other incredible achievements to talk about every night.
Young was incredibly electric in college, as was Bush who is the rightful owner of the 2005 Heisman Trophy and he should get it back. It’s only right and it appears Young feels the same way.
