Trent Dilfer has high praise for Georgia recruit Brock Vandagriff at Elite 11 camp
By Mark Powell
Brock Vandagriff is cementing his status as Georgia’s QB of the future.
Five-star quarterback and 2021 Georgia commit Brock Vandagriff continues to impress in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. Vandagriff took part in Elite 11 camp this past week, which finished up on Wednesday. Per head instructor Trent Dilfer, Vandagriff was the second-best passer in the group, and should thrive in Todd Monken’s offense in Athens.
Vandagriff won’t step foot on campus until next season, when Jamie Newman will be preparing for the NFL Draft. The Georgia native will compete with the likes of USC transfer JT Daniels in hopes of achieving a rare feat — starting with the Bulldogs right away.
Why Georgia commit Brock Vandagriff stood out at Elite 11 Camp
“Vandagriff is awesome,” Dilfer stated, per 247sports. “He’s another one of those kids that makes everything look easy. His tape matches what you see in person. It’s impossible not to put the other stuff out of your mind when you’re watching him, he plays six weeks after he shatters his ankle with screws in his ankle and scores six touchdowns. He’s not a camp guy, you can see he’s a football player at a camp. He’s consistent.”
Dilfer’s stamp of approval should excite Georgia fans, as he’s established a reputation as one of the best in the business at identifying QB talent. The former Super Bowl winner did not feel deceived by Vandagriff’s tape, which is a good sign for Kirby Smart and Co., as they know exactly what they have at the quarterback position in the Class of 2021.
Vandagriff is the No. 2 player in the state, and No. 4 dual-threat QB in his class, and another example of Smart solidifying the in-state recruiting process. Under Smart’s tenure, however, Georgia has had trouble developing passers not named Jake Fromm, with Jacob Eason and Justin Fields transferring elsewhere. Vandagriff gives Smart, Monken and Co. another opportunity.
