LeBron James tweets before heading to Orlando for NBA restart
LeBron James tweeted about the NBA restart before heading to the Orlando bubble.
So far, enthusiasm over entering the NBA‘s restart bubble in Orlando hasn’t exactly been overflowing.
Troy Daniels and several other players have posted pictures of the underwhelming food at the Walt Disney Resort, Rajon Rondo compared his suite to a Motel 6 for some reason and now, LeBron James is comparing his feelings about the bubble to doing jail time.
As he posted on Twitter Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar has left his house to head out for Orlando, but he feels like he’s “headed to do a bid.” For those unfamiliar, “do a bid” refers to serving a prison sentence.
Let’s not read too much into LeBron James’ comments here.
On the one hand, we’ve got to cut some slack for LeBron James and any other NBA player who’s hesitant about this whole bubble environment. There’s going to be a lot of loneliness, a lot of boredom and a lot of antsy players over these next few months being stuck in the same place. There are only so many activities to keep their minds occupied in their free time that are also safe, and that’s saying nothing of not being able to have their family or close friends around them until after the first round of the playoffs, when a select number of guests are allowed to enter the bubble.
However, as high as the risk is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and as devastating as it’d be for anyone in the bubble to catch COVID-19, being able to still make money, play basketball again and stay it in the nicest suites Walt Disney Resort can offer is not quite the same thing as being in prison.
With that being said, LeBron is mostly referring to how much he’ll miss his family (#JamesGang), which is totally understandable. Nobody should really scrutinize his comment too heavily — unless it’s to point out that Damian Lillard made the same comparison first, of course.
