Rajon Rondo’s ‘Motel 6’ room in Orlando looks like no Motel 6 we’ve ever seen

Rajon Rondo seems unhappy with his room in Orlando.

Props to Rajon Rondo for reminding us all how broke we really are.

With NBA players arriving in Orlando to take part in the league’s restart within the Walt Disney Resort bubble, their early reactions are already pouring in on social media. Troy Daniels and a few other players caused a stir when they posted pictures of the, erm, unappetizing food they’ll be eating on a regular basis.

Damian Lillard and LeBron James have both compared traveling to the bubble with “feeling like going to do a bid,” and now Rondo is taking it a step further.

On Thursday, the 34-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard took to his Instagram story to post a picture of his room at the Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, where the Lakers and other elite NBA teams will be staying for the next couple of months. Suffice it to say he was not impressed, comparing it to a Motel 6 and tagging the official NBA Insta account:

Come on, Rajon Rondo

On the one hand, we’ll cut Rondo some slack. That’s a relatively confined living space for a 6-foot-1 dude with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, especially since he’ll be living there from now until possibly October. NBA players are supposed to quarantine upon arrival, which means it’ll be a few weeks before these guys can take their minds off of boredom by doing anything fun with their teammates, let alone friends and family (who won’t enter the bubble until after the first round of the playoffs).

Even so, as unappealing as the food looked, and as harsh as this situation is overall, comparing that room to a Motel 6 just tells us Rondo has never stayed in a Motel 6. Or at least, not the kind of Motel 6 we’ve ever seen.

It’s probably just meant to be an exaggeration or a harmless joke, but in the midst of a global pandemic that has claimed more than 130,000 American lives, where millions of people are out of work, comparing this luxurious suite — cramped though it may become after a few months — to a Motel 6 is just a teensy bit off-base.
