Alabama football fans were extremely petty in the Tuscaloosa polls on Tuesday.
Alabama football fans proved SEC football just means more, especially in the polls.
For those who haven’t been paying attention, former college football head coach Tommy Tuberville is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate. The former head coach best associated with the Auburn Tigers was up against former United States Senator and Attorney General Jeff Sessions for the Republican Party nomination to go up against Alabama Junior Senator Doug Jones in November.
Tuberville won in a landslide, as he secured the GOP nomination within two hours after all the voting precincts closed in the Yellowhammer State. However, when looking at how the major metro areas in Alabama voted, you shouldn’t be surprised with how Greater Tuscaloosa voted in the Republican Primary.

Alabama football fans in Tuscaloosa were unforgiving with Tommy Tuberville.
Though it has been 12 years and several jobs ago that Tuberville coached down on The Plains, the Crimson Tide faithful in Tuscaloosa will never forget where their former rival coach made his name. While Alabama is a purple state in the United States Senate with Richard Shelby as a Republican and Jones as a Democrat, it’ll be interesting to see how Tuscaloosa votes in November.
Jones replaced Luther Strange who replaced Sessions as the Alabama Junior Senator once he was appointed the U.S. Attorney General for President Trump. Sessions didn’t last all that long in his role and decided to run again for U.S. Senate on the Republican ticket. Too bad Tuberville had President Trump’s backing. It’s not a surprise, as Trump is a massive, massive college football fan.
Could Jones keep his seat in the United States Senate? I mean, he did win his election in a predominantly red state a few years ago. Jones may need to win big in major metro areas such as Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and even Tuscaloosa. It would be interesting if most of the state votes Tuberville over Jones except for Tuscaloosa out of extreme pettiness.
Then again, a lot of Crimson Tide fans did end up voting for Tuberville in this Republican Primary. They are easily the most popular team in the state, so you have to win over the hearts of Alabama football fans if you want to get seemingly anything done in this southeastern state. From the looks of it, Jones can look to build off what Sessions did in Tuscaloosa to help stay in office.
Tuberville could be a future U.S. Senator, but Tuscaloosa may not be all that interested in helping.
