Tommy Tuberville will represent the GOP in the Alabama U.S. Senate race.

Are we ready to live in a world where Tommy Tuberville is a United States Senator?

Well, we are one crucial step closer to seeing that happen. On Tuesday, the former college football head coach defeated former United States Senator and Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the Republican Primary in a landslide. Sessions had served under President Trump in his previous role as U.S. Attorney General. Tuberville will now go up against Democrat Doug Jones in November.

“Thank you for your trust, your confidence,” said Tuberville. “Your message of change is loud and clear. Just talked to Senator Sessions. He was awesome. He said, ‘Coach, I’m all in.’”

“I know that Jeff Sessions and his supporters are going to be behind us. We’re going to need everybody on deck. This is going to be hard. So we do appreciate your support. And now we’re all on the same team.”

Tuberville ran with the promise he’d have President Trump’s back in Washington, as he hopes to take down Jones in the polls in November. If you can believe or not, Alabama is a purple state in the United States Senate. While Richard Shelby has been in office seemingly forever, it was Jones who replaced Luther Strange who replaced Sessions when he became Trump’s Attorney General.

Is the former Auburn head coach really about to be a United States Senator?

Well, if you look at who showed up to vote for him on Tuesday, it’s staggering by how much for the former Auburn Tigers head coach won by. Outside of that incredible 2004 campaign, he never dominated that much in his previous profession. “With 92 percent of precincts reporting, Tuberville had 312,000 votes, or 61 percent, to 197,000 for Sessions, 39 percent.”

Though Alabama Crimson Tide fans didn’t exactly vote for him in Tuscaloosa, they did rally for him in the rest of the Yellowhammer State. While it has been 12 years since Tuberville last coached on The Plains, college football is a religion in the Southeastern United States, especially in a state like Alabama where there is no professional football. To see him win that convincingly is impressive.

Alabama has been one of Trump’s strongest bases. Even if former United States Vice President Joe Biden beats Trump in November, Trump will still win Alabama’s electoral votes and Tuberville may very well get one of 100 precious United States Senate seats. He won’t be the first man associated with sports to get into politics at a major level, but Tuberville won’t be the last either.

Get your mind prepared for Tuberville to be the Junior Senator from the State of Alabama in 2021.
