Joel Embiid revealed his signature sneaker
By Mike Luciano
Joel Embiid is coming out with his own signature shoe.
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has long been one of the more enigmatic, entertaining players in the NBA over the last few seasons, but the Cameroonian giant has been dreadfully underrepresented in the shoe game for quite some time. Sixers fans desperate for Embiid to enter the shoe marketplace can finally have their thirst quenched.
Embiid has signed linked up with Steph Curry and Under Armour, and his first venture into the shoe game is quite the sight to behold. The “Embiid One” will hit store shelves in it’s “origin” colorway in the near future.
Embiid’s shoes reflect his ties to Africa and North America.
Embiid’s journey to the NBA is one of the more strange when compared to the rest of the league’s superstars. After getting introduced to the game during his teenage years in Cameroon, he arrived in the HS and became one of the country’s top recruits. After a solid season at Kansas, he was drafted third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. He has since become one of the last dominant post centers in the game, averaging 24.0 points and 11.9 rebounds per game for a Sixers team with championship aspirations.
The shoes reflect his unique journey, as the red, yellow, and green colors reflect those in the flag of his native Cameroon. The shapes of both African and North America can be clearly seen in the sole. While it remains to be seen if they’ll sell well, you can’t attack Embiid and Under Armour for not being creative given the outlandish design.
After a noticeable wait, Embiid is finally getting into the shoe game. For the sake of the consumer, let’s just hope that these shoes have better durability than Embiid himself.
