You know what’s weird? Todd Gurley wearing an Atlanta Falcons uniform.

Todd Gurley looks good in Red and Black, but the Atlanta Falcons present a different a look.

We’ve known the former Georgia Bulldogs standout and Los Angeles Rams All-Pro running back will play the 2020 NFL season as a member of the Dirty Birds. It’s a sneaky-good signing for Atlanta because he’ll surely be an upgrade over Devonta Freeman. If Gurley is close to what he was at times with the Rams, Atlanta may have a scary good offense in 2020.

No matter how well he runs, catches the ball out of the backfield or holds his own in pass protection, Gurley will be wearing his first new uniform since being draft No. 10 overall by the then-St. Louis Rams out of Georgia back in 2015. He might be wearing Falcons legend Deion Sanders‘ No. 21 jersey, but we’re still not used to Gurley rocking this kind of Red and Black.

Todd Gurley may look good and feel good, but will he play good in Atlanta?

It’s a bold choice for any Dirty Bird to wear the No. 21 jersey. Former Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant most recently rocked it as Atlanta’s No. 1 cornerback for the last seven seasons. While Gurley may have the blessing of Prime Time, let’s hope his Falcons career goes better than fellow Rams running back greats of Eric Dickerson and Steven Jackson.

Admittedly, Gurley has considerably more tread on his tires than Dickerson did in the early 1990s or Jackson did in the mid-2010s. Gurley is only in his mid-20s, but a degenerative knee condition has people in NFL circles wondering how many more years he can play at anything close to a high level in the league. For Gurley, this is an opportunity for him to begin his second act on a high note.

When healthy, Gurley has shown he’s among the very best running backs in football. Only two years ago he was the focal point of the 2018 Rams offense that had the team back in the Super Bowl for the first time in 17 years. Though he faded down the stretch, the Rams don’t get to Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta without him. Can he help the Falcons get back into the NFC playoffs?

Next. Which NFL offenses will take a giant leap forward in 2020?. dark

Atlanta has played surprisingly well in recent years featuring a United States presidential election. The Dirty Birds have qualified for the NFC playoffs in the last four election years dating back to 2004. They’ve won the NFC South in three of those four seasons, playing in the NFC Championship game every time they’ve won the division in a presidential election year. Coincidence? We’ll see.

Get used to Gurley wearing a Falcons jersey because he doesn’t play for the Rams anymore.
