President Trump thinks it’ll be a tragic mistake to cancel college football
As the college football season hangs in the balance, President Trump has made his stance clear. He thinks it’ll be a tragedy if the season is canceled.
As university presidents wait to determine if their schools and conferences will move forward with a college football season in the fall amid coronavirus concerns, the president of the United States has made his feelings known.
One day after co-opting Trevor Lawrence, Darien Rencher and several other football player’s “We Want to Play” movement and releasing a hype video in conjunction with that, President Trump thinks it’ll be a tragic mistake if the season is postponed or canceled.
In an appearance on Fox Sports Radio, Trump made it clear the nation needs college football and with fans in the stands amid growing concerns about the extended first wave of the spread and the looming threat of the second wave later this fall and winter. Trump thinks because the players are young and in great shape, the season should move forward.
“These football players are very young, strong people and physically, I mean they’re physically in extraordinary shape,” Trump said. “So they’re not going to have a problem, you’re not going to see people, you know, could there be? Could it happen? But I doubt it.”
“So I think football is making a tragic mistake,” Trump continued.
While Trump wants to see fans in the stands as some athletic directors have outlined reduced fan policies, he admits he’s unsure if schools can pull it off.
“I’m not sure college football can do it, but we’ll have to see, Trump said about fans in the stands at college football games.”
