President Donald Trump released a “We Want To Play” video for a college football season.

President Donald Trump wants there to be a 2020 college football season, and he hasn’t been shy about letting the world know it.

On Monday, with reports surfacing that the Big Ten and Pac-12 might be cancelling their seasons, Trump took to Twitter and shared a “We Want To Play” hype video to try and sway the public discourse.

Momentum has certainly been on the side of cancelling or postponing conferences’ upcoming college football seasons due to the coronavirus pandemic that’s been worse here in America than anywhere else, but Trump is standing firm on the side of the college athletes who still want to play.

Of course, such a video wouldn’t be complete without plenty of footage of Donald Trump attending college football games, shaking hands with coaches and players, and welcoming the Alabama Crimson Tide to the White House after they won a national championship. You didn’t expect Trump to tweet out his support of something his fanbase could rally behind in an election year without inserting himself into the mix, did you?

Earlier on Monday, Trump had been vocal about his support for a 2020 college football season. First, he quote-tweeted Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s “#WeWantToPlay” tweet, writing, “The student-athletes have been working too hard for their season to be cancelled. #WeWantToPlay.”

Not long after, Trump made it even simpler, tweeting, “Play College Football!”

Only time will tell whether football fans actually get a season, especially now that the Mid-American Conference and Mountain West Conference have already cancelled theirs. Rest assured Trump will condemn the conferences that shut down fall sports in favor of safety in the middle of a pandemic and continue to push for the return of sports, which, ironically enough, might never have been in doubt had the United States dealt with COVID-19 responsibly in the first place.
