Tyler Adams put Red Bull Leipzig in the Champions League semifinals.
Of all the players who could’ve scored a game-winning goal that put Red Bull Leipzig past Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, did anyone have their money on 21-year-old American defensive midfielder Tyler Adams?
Leipzig reached the semifinal for the first time in club history after Adams poked a goal past Jan Oblak late in what turned out to be a 2-1 win. Founded just 11 years ago, Leipzig will now take on PSG in the semifinal.

Tyler Adams has been as good as expected in Germany.
Adams originally broke out as a star for Jesse Marsch at MLS side New York Red Bulls. When Marsch moved to Europe, Adams followed, joining the upstart German side. While Adams made his name as a defensive midfielder, his eye for goal put Leipzig in the next round of the Champions League. The goal was Adams’ second with Leipzig.
Already with 10 caps for the United States internationally, Adams’ stock just continues to rise, as he and Weston McKennie could solidify the American midfield.

Star Leipzig striker Timo Werner might be in London with Chelsea, but Leipzig are in the Champions League semifinals, and they have the standout young American to thank for that.
