More from Premier League

Chelsea, under the charge of manager Frank Lampard, currently hold fourth place on the Premier League table. Their leading man this season has been Tammy Abraham, who has bagged 13 goals in the league so far while fellow forwards Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi have only managed a combined three.

Werner is a proven goalscorer. So far this season he has scored 25 goals in  Leipzig have played 29 games, even delivering 7 assists. That is almost double what Chelsea’s current top scorer (Abraham) has achieved over Chelsea’s 29 matches.

Over his career in the Bundesliga, Werner has played a total of 217 matches – delivering 88 goals. Werner is a quick player who challenges the defensive line of his opponents, a style of play suited to the speed of the Premier League. Chelsea have an impressive host of creative players (such as Willian, Jorginho and Mason Mount) who can complement Werner’s excellent positional awareness and provide him opportunities to utilize his quality finishing.

If Chelsea are interested in pursuing Werner, they will need to secure Champions League football in order to fend off the appeal of playing for a Liverpool team likely to win the league this season. Werner’s platform in the Bundesliga has thrust him into the spotlight on the world stage and it is safe to assume the forward will want to continue his rise by playing at the highest level.
