Jaguars are reportedly on the verge of trading Yannick Ngakoue

The Jacksonville Jaguars might finally trade Yannick Ngakoue.

After being picked in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Yannick Ngakoue has exceeded the Jacksonville Jaguars’ wildest expectations.

Ngakoue has played in all but one game and recorded 37 sacks in his first four seasons in the league. Unfortunately, Jacksonville’s decision to slap him with a franchise tag rather than extending him or letting him hit the open market led to Ngakoue demanding a trade. After months of going back and forth, the Jaguars might finally pull the trigger and trade him.

Michael Lombardi is reporting that Ngakoue will almost certainly be moved in the coming days, as the Jaguars have at least one quality offer on the table. After getting into a fight with Jaguars owner Tony Khan on Twitter a few months ago and burning almost every bridge in sight in Duval County, officially getting rid of him is a matter of when, not if.

Ngakoue is coming off another productive season in Jacksonville

Last season, Ngakoue set new career-best marks in tackles (41) and tackles for loss (13) while recording eight sacks despite playing on a Jaguars defense that was utterly toothless when compared to the dominant squad they featured in 2017.

The former Maryland star’s productivity is a major feather in his cap, but his consistency is what will ultimately earn him a hefty payday, as he has never recorded less than eight sacks in a season. Having forced 14 fumbles in four years is a nice touch as well for the disruptive Ngakoue.

In trading him, Doug Marrone and the Jags will get more picks needed for the rebuild, while the team who is aggressive enough to trade for him gets one of the game’s best young pass rushers.

Very rarely are pass rushers of Ngakoue’s age and caliber available at this point in the season. Now that trading him is finally coming to fruition, expect any contending team with a bit of a hole in their front seven to pounce on the speedy, versatile edge rusher.
