FSU will allow tailgates at home stadium with precautions in place.

College football is slated to look incredibly different in the fall with the Big 10 and Pac-12 canceling their seasons, the ACC, SEC and Big 12 aiming to play an altered schedule that either totally eradicates or cuts down on non-conference games, and fan attendance being cut down or not allowed at all.

But there is one small return to normalcy for Florida State fans.

On Thursday, the Florida State Athletics Department released their decision to allow tailgating at their stadium before home games, but it came with new rules to adhere to.

The new rules state that patrons will only be allowed to stay within their own specific tailgate area  and are not permitted to move about to other tailgates. They are also asked to maintain six-feet social distancing between themselves and other people, as well as between tailgate spaces.

Finally, everyone is encouraged to wear a mask while moving through the parking lot and while socializing with others within their own tailgate.

This decision comes as other teams have canceled tailgating

The allowance of tailgating by Florida State does come as a bit of a surprise, especially since many other teams have announced that they will not allow on-campus tailgating.

Even multiple SEC teams, who have some of the most committed tailgaters in college football, have decided to cancel tailgating for this season, including Alabama and Auburn.

For LSU, the president of the University said that he will probably discourage fans without tickets from tailgating.

Although tailgating certainly poses a risk of contracting COVID-19, Florida State is free to allow it if they feel like it can be done in a safe manner, and there are obviously financial pressures as well, since tailgating brings money to the athletic department. But it will ultimately be up to the tailgaters to adhere to the rules put in place and act personally responsible.
