Florida State will allow fans in 2020, but not very many will be allowed in the stadium.

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a wrench in a lot of people’s plans and has also made it difficult for sports to resume as they normally would. Due to social distancing, sports leagues have either made it a point to not allow any fans at games or to allow a lot less in the stands.

Florida State will fall into the latter category, as they’ll be trimming down attendance to between 20 and 25 percent in the 2020 season per Brett McMurphy.

Doak Campbell Stadium is where Florida State plays its home games and it has a capacity of 79,560. With this new attendance rule, that means FSU can have between 15,000 – 16,000 fans at each of their home games in Tallahassee.

The Seminoles didn’t have great attendance last year with the season average actually being the lowest they had had since 1989. The team wasn’t great in 2019, but they did go 6-6 and qualified for a bowl game.

This year likely would have resulted in more fans due to the hiring of Mike Norvell, who had an impressive run at Memphis. He replaces Willie Taggart as the head coach of Florida State football and should get them back on track.

It’s unknown at this time if fans will end up being allowed at all or if a college football season is even played, but for now, Florida State does plan to have some fans in the stands, even if it is less than normal.

A new schedule was released for Florida State after it was announced last week that the ACC would only play conference games and just one non-conference opponent. This gives the Seminoles home games against Georgia Tech, Samford, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Clemson, and Virginia, and there are several decent games in that bunch for fans to attend.

Other teams should be following suit with this attendance rule if they haven’t already and hopefully things will be better to where fans can actually attend sporting events this fall.
