Eagles’ Dallas Goedert suffers minor thumb injury at camp

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert dodged a bullet with a minor injury.
This season, the NFC East is expected to be tightly contested between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. With the Cowboys having one of the more stacked rosters in the league, the Eagles can’t afford to pick up any major injuries. They dodged a major bullet on Friday.
According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a hairline fracture in one of his thumb in training camp this week. The injury isn’t considered serious, as he can return with a splint on his hand by next week. This injury to Goedert comes hours after fellow tight end Zack Ertz was deemed day-to-day with an upper body injury.
Goedert plays an important role in Eagles offense
Prior to picking up the thumb fracture, Goedert thrived during practice this week. In fact, the third-year tight end made a spectacular one-handed grab on a pass from quarterback Carson Wentz during practice on Monday.
The Eagles eyed the former South Dakota State tight end during the 2018 NFL Draft process. He was considered the best at his position in that year’s class, and it came as a bit of a shock that he fell all the way to the second-round. Sensing an opportunity, Philadelphia traded up to secure Goedert’s services and effectively stole him from the then-tight end needy Cowboys.
Goedert didn’t make too much of an impact during his rookie season, but he broke out in 2019. Thanks in part to the entire Eagles offense getting injured in the final month of the season, Goedert received extended offensive snaps, and thrived. In 15 games, the tight end hauled in 58-of-87 passes for 607 yards and five touchdowns.
Take a deep breath, Eagles fans. All reports indicate that Goedert won’t miss any regular season snaps with this minor thumb fracture, meaning the team will be just fine at the tight end position come Week 1.
