Lionel Messi reportedly tells Barcelona he wants to leave the club

After joining Barcelona’s first team back in 2004, Lionel Messi has reportedly informed the club he’s ready to make his exit. 

Shocking, earth-shattering news has just arrived from Catalonia.

On Tuesday, it’s been reported that Lionel Messi, a true legend of the game, has informed the higher-ups at Barcelona he’s ready for a fresh start and is planning to leave the club this summer.

Messi has voiced his displeasure with Barcelona in recent months and things appear to have reached a boiling point after the European giants were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

Bayern, which went on to win the title, took down Barcelona 8-2. It was the team’s worst loss in history, only adding to Messi’s anger.

Could Lionel Messi reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City?

The news was reported by Argentina’s TyC Sports of Messi’s home country. To make things even more interesting, Messi reportedly has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave Barcelona and sign with a new team on a free transfer.

Ever since he made his first-team debut at the Camp Nou, Messi has been an extraordinary player for the club. Since 2004, he’s made nearly 500 appearances and scored a mind-blowing 444 goals.

He’s also helped Barcelona win countless titles, including the Champions League four times and lifting La Liga trophy on 10 different occasions. Messi has also won the Ballon D’or six times, which stands him alone at the top.

With Messi, 33, apparently being able to leave Barcelona on a free transfer, you’re surely going to see plenty of teams make a run to try and land him. Early speculation hints Messi could be interested in reuniting with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Messi to the Premier League?

Regardless of where he suits up next, watching Messi play for a different team is going to be strange to see. He’s meant so much to Barcelona over the years and will forever be an icon in the city.
