Boxer DeAndre Ware provides medical aid, saves life, before weigh-in
Twitter was buzzing with a scary moment inside Top Rank’s bubble where a fight coordinator collapsed, and boxer DeAndre Ware came to his rescue.
During the weigh-in the night before the Sept. 5, Jamel Herring vs. Jonathan Oquendo Top Rank card, boxer DeAndre Ward had to put his skills as a firefighter to use as an emergency situation erupted.
According to a Tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Top Rank matchmaker Pete Susens collapsed and required urgent care.
Luckily, Ware was there to help him during his time of need and helped save Susens’ life in the process.
Ware (13-2-2, 8 KOs), 32, of Toledo, Ohio, fights undefeated super middleweight Steven Nelson (16-0, 13 KOs) on the undercard of Herring vs. Oquendo. Ware is a boxer but also a Toledo firefighter.
Boxer DeAndre Ware was the hero of the day when he helped save a life using his skills as a firefighter to resuscitate a person suffering from a medical emergency.
Ware probably wasn’t planning on using his training as a firefighter leading up to the fight, but disaster struck, and Ware jumped into action based on social media accounts of the alarming scene. Mannix’s tweet details how Ware had to perform chest compressions on Susens.
Ware also commented on the incident on Twitter saying, “I’m here for my fight but I had to put EMS skills to work and do some CPR. Happy to say the guy was talking a bit and was alert headed to the hospital. I’m thankful! I feel I saved a life.”
Others who were present also thanked Ware for his quick and heroic actions. Ware has a tough matchup against Nelson. Whatever happens, his efforts outside of the ring prove that he’s a courageous person who’s selfless at all times.
Ware’s tweet revealed that Susens was conscious and talking after his life-saving efforts. FanSided wishes Susens a fast and full recovery.
Ware went on to make weight. You can watch him in the ring on Saturday, Sept. 5, on ESPN+, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
