Frank Gore Jr. is a freshman in college at Southern Miss while his father is still playing in the NFL.

The dynamics of age mean there aren’t many college kids who say their father currently plays in the NFL, but Frank Gore Jr. can say just that. Gore Sr. is heading into his 16th season in the NFL after being a third-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft while his son, Frank Gore Jr., is just beginning the next phase of his football career.

While Gore Jr. didn’t follow his dad and play at the University of Miami, he’ll be a big piece of the Southern Miss offense with his speed and elusiveness.

It’s rare to see a running back play 16 seasons in the pros due to how much of a beating they take on the field each and every week, but Gore is still out there and rocking. He likely won’t be the starter for the Jets (his fifth NFL team), but he’s still shown that he can produce on a consistent level and that’s why he’s still in the league.

Frank Gore Jr. is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps.

If an NFL player is fortunate enough to play for as long as Gore has, typically they’ll retire when their kids get to college so that they can watch them play football or other sports. That wasn’t the case with the Gore family and now both Gore Sr. and Gore Jr. will be playing football at the same time.

Maybe Gore will wait another four years so that he and his son can play in the NFL at the same time? That would put Gore Sr. at 41 years old, so that seems unlikely, but he’s shown that he’s unlike most NFL running backs, as most have a pretty young shelf life and Gore is still wheeling and dealing at age 37.

Frank Gore Jr. carried the ball 12 times for 32 yards in his college football debut.
