Shaquem Griffin was selected by the Seahawks in the fifth round in 2018, but he received limited playing time

Griffin doesn’t have a place on this current Seahawks squad, despite the inspiration he brings to so many. Unfortunately, the NFL is more than just feel-good stories, as much as most of us would love to see Griffin succeed. His brother, Shaquill, is one of the best defensive backs on Seattle’s roster, but the linebacker position was extraordinarily competitive heading into training camp, this creating an unfortunate buffer between him and a guaranteed roster spot.

The 25-year-old was primarily a special teams player in 2019, and didn’t get much of an opportunity to prove himself in the regular defensive rotation at the linebacker position. He received some snaps as a backup linebacker, but evidently didn’t leave much of an impression.

Where does Shaquem Griffin go from here?

While playing on the same team as his brother only furthered his incredible storyline, it does not have to end here for a player whose work ethic has never been in question. In all likelihood, the future holds a number of tryouts for Griffin and potentially even a practice squad stint. It’s far from a glorified path, and one that’s been made even tougher given the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Griffin seemed to find a home as a strong-side linebacker and should be able to find an opportunity in this league year. From here on before the start of the regular season, it’s tough for fans to keep up with roster cut victims, as opposing teams act quickly to scoop up the best players on the market. Expect Griffin to be one of those, even if his days in Seattle are over.

Next. Seahawks are bringing back Josh Gordon and now Russell Wilson’s offense is stacked. dark
