Phillies walk off Red Sox with clutch single by Alec Bohm (Video)

In a battle of bad bullpens, the Phillies came out on top
The seven-inning doubleheader format is still taking baseball fans some time to get used to, but the Philadelphia Phillies were able to take advantage on Tuesday afternoon. The Phillies bullpen has been downright atrocious all season, even after acquiring Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree from these very Red Sox, and they nearly suffered a bad loss against Boston as a result. Instead, Alec Bohm made good use of his last strike, driving home two runs with a game-winning single.
Bohm’s hitting around .300 with an OPS over .800. Those are rookie of the year numbers, especially with his rapid defensive development at third base.
Alec Bohm has been a tremendous addition to the Phillies clubhouse
Bohm, rated as one of the team’s top prospects, has benefitted from a shortened season in that the Phillies had little to no reason to leave him at the alternate training site. There was no minor leagues to allow him to continue developing towards the end of the season.
Philadelphia’s lineup has put them in an ideal spot, a solid second in the NL East and chasing the Braves for first place. However, the Phillies bullpen will keep them from much postseason success barring a monumental turnaround this September. Unless Bohm can pitch, they’re in for a rude awakening.
