This stat proves LSU, Oklahoma are the model of consistently winning in college football
Both LSU and Oklahoma are the only two teams to post seasons above .500 for the past 20 consecutive years and that’s a remarkable stat.
Two of the best college football programs over the years have no question been the Oklahoma Sooners and LSU Tigers. Entering the 2020 campaign, both programs have high expectations, and LSU is fresh off its perfect 15-0 season. Things ended for the Tigers with their National Championship win over Clemson.
But, just how good have the two teams been over the past 20 years? Believe it or not, they’re the only two programs that have finished above .500 for at least the past 20 campaigns. That stat is head-turning.
Oklahoma leads the way with 21 consecutive winning seasons
As you can see from the tweet above, Oklahoma has the most consecutive winning seasons at 21, while LSU is not far behind with 20. This just goes to show you how tremendous both teams have performed, a true testament to great recruiting and coaching players up once they get to campus.
For the Sooners, they opened up their 2020 season against Missouri State and second-year freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler put on a show. The former 5-star signal-caller finished the game throwing for 290 yards and four touchdowns in his starting debut. He posted those stats in only the first half, powering the Sooners to a 41-0 advantage at halftime.
With Rattler leading the offensive charge, it’s safe to assume Lincoln Riley and the Sooners will have no problem improving their streak of consecutive winning seasons to 22 this fall.
As for LSU, Ed Orgeron and company are coming off a historic 2019. With Joe Burrow leading the way, the Tigers went undefeated and took home the national title. In 2020, they’ll have a new-look team with Burrow now with the Bengals and record-setting wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase opting out of the campaign to focus on the NFL Draft.
Regardless, the Tigers are still expected to make major noise in the SEC this year, with their season-opener coming against Mike Leach and Mississippi State on Sept. 26.
