Oklahoma football sophomore receiver Theo Weise is in complete awe of Spencer Rattler, saying he caught one of the craziest passes he’s ever seen.

Oklahoma cruised to a 48-0 victory in their home opener against the Missouri State Bears. Redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler threw more touchdown passes than incomplete passes going 14-17 for 290 yards and four touchdowns. Rattler’s debut could not have gone any better.

That’s a lot to get excited about if you are a Sooners fan. Rattler is going to follow in the footsteps of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts as the next great Sooners quarterback. That is not what has redshirt sophomore Theo Wease is excited to play with Rattler.

Eddie Radosevich posted a fantastic pitch and catch from the season-opening win vs. Missouri State when Rattler unleashed “one of the craziest throws he’s ever caught.”

It’s easy to see why Theo Wease is so excited to be on the receiving end of passes from Spencer Rattler and why expectations are high for the Oklahoma football rising star

Rattler dropped a dime on a deep out route to Wease for a long completion. In his first game of the season, the Arizona native is demonstrating why Lincoln Riley did not have to go to the transfer portal to find an elite quarterback.

In his first start, Rattler completed 14-of-17 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns. He did all that damage in the first half where he exceeded the hype ahead of his debut as the Sooners starter.

Rattler was MVP of the prestigious Elite 11 camp as a high school senior and the only 5-star rated quarterback in 2019. Barton Simmons of 247Sports said in his evaluation that Rattler was “accurate in ball placement.” Simmons also noted that Rattler was the most “natural thrower in the 2019 class.” The throw to Wease was a perfect demonstration of Rattler’s ball placement.

The ball was not only on time, but it was also in a tight window between the defender and the sideline. Wease caught the ball in stride. Many of Rattler’s throws were in stride and on time. Receivers did not have to reach behind or break stride to catch the football. Rattler’s throwing motion is compact and effortless.

Rattler reminds you of a young Michael Vick the way he flicks the ball out of his hand on deep balls. The redshirt freshman is far more accurate than Vick was as a freshman with similar arm strength. Wease could look forward to catching many more sick passes like this one.
