Citi Field is on fire and the Mets are still playing.
Nothing is going to stop the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves from playing some good old fashioned baseball … not even the ballpark being on fire. On Sunday afternoon video surfaced of black clouds of smoke from the outer walls of Citi Field, perhaps from the stores on the streets below.
But the game moved on.

Looks like something is on fire right outside Citi Field. Smoke is now filling the stadium. pic.twitter.com/TzHHDUiAA1

At first glance, it’s hard to actually tell where the fire is burning but the smoke was clearly inching its way inside the fan-less ballpark.
This isn’t the first Citi Field fire
This isn’t the first time there has been a fire in or around Citi Field either. In May 2018 a fire broke out in a display case in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. This was a much more serious fire as it was indoors, thankfully there was “minimal damage” and no injuries according to NBC NY.
The Mets lost the game, to no fault of the fire, but the fans sure did have a field day with their fire-puns.
No need to be alarmed, just the Braves offense
