Jordan Love selection was weirdly what Aaron Rodgers needed

Aaron Rodgers appears to have plenty of motivation in 2020.

The Green Bay Packers created a ton of offseason controversy by drafting quarterback Jordan Love in the first round. Aaron Rodgers is playing on a massive extension through the 2023 season and just took the team to the NFC Championship Game last season.

The move instantly put Rodgers on the clock and conversations popped up about when Love could get the starting job. 2020 does not look to be that year as Rodgers is absolutely dominating through two weeks of play as the Packers are 2-0.

The Packers did not draft a wide receiver this year and that unit remained a question. After heavily targeting Davante Adams in Week 1, Rodgers completed passes to seven different players in Week 2.

The 36-year-old already has a combined 604 passing yards and six touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season. The Packers defense has been given a huge cushion as the offense put up 43 points in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings and followed that up with 42 points Sunday against the Detroit Lions. So it appears the Packers are still the kings of the NFC North.

What the Love selection did was remind Rodgers his career is not endless. He is 36 years old and that means the Packers wanted to start planning for the future. The veteran has taken the move with grace and seemingly much better than Brett Favre did when Rodgers was drafted back in 2005.

Rodgers lit up the Lions defense Sunday and did so on only 18 completions. He may have been able to get the score well above 42 points if he threw 44 passes like he did in Week 1.

Next. Packers might as well print their NFC North banner. dark

Love appears to be the quarterback of the future in Green Bay. But it also appears he will be waiting for quite some time unless the Packers make the shocking move to trade Rodgers while he is still dominating just for the sake of moving on or saving money.
