Green Bayās already shallow wide receiver corps could be taking another massive hit, if surgery is required.
The Green Bay Packers were ridiculed throughout the NFL offseason for their lack of additions in their passing game. Those critics were silenced in their 2020 regular-season opener, when quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his wide receiver corps lit up the Minnesota Vikings defense. But lo and behold, the lack of depth is catching up with them. First, Davante Adams missed Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, but now, another pass-catcher could be out for a significant period of time.
According to ESPNās Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky, Allen Lazard is consulting with a specialist for a core muscle injury. Dr. William Meyers will look at Lazardās scans and determine if he needs to have surgery. Per Schefter, Lazard was unable to avoid that predicament.
Packers waiting to see how long theyāll be without Lazard
Once Adams was sidelined for Week 3, Lazard stepped up in relief. During Green Bayās road contest against the Saints, Lazard hauled in six-of-eight targets from Rodgers for a career-high 146 yards and a touchdown. In fact, Lazard received the game ball for his performance.
There was no mention of Lazard dealing with core muscle pain until Thursday, after he was listed as ādid not practiceā on the teamās injury report. However, there is good news. Adams returned to practice on Thursday, putting him on track to return to the field for Green Bayās game against the Atlanta Falcons this upcoming Monday.
Through the first three weeks of the campaign, the 24-year-old caught 13-of-27 targets for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
Lazard is out indefinitely. You can expect Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Malik Taylor and Darrius Shepard to receive an uptick in targets against Atlantaās putrid and porous secondary.
