Trysten Hill’s fine for dirty play on Chris Carson is a joke

The NFL handed down a pretty weak punishment to Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill for two unnecessary roughness penalties.
Last week, the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys competed in an offensive shootout, where the NFC West squad narrowly squeaked out the victory after a late fourth-quarter touchdown by quarterback Russell Wilson.
However, that storyline was overshadowed by the injury to Seahawks running back Chris Carson, who had his leg twisted by Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill. In fact, Hill also managed to lay out Wilson with a helmet-to-helmet hit. Despite performing those two egregious acts, Hill got a slap on the wrist by the NFL.
On Saturday, the league announced that Hill was fined a grand total of $13,044 for those two penalties. It wasn’t enough. To put Hill’s fine into perspective, just look at how the league punished Tennessee Titans edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

The fine for Trysten Hill just wasn’t enough
During this past Sunday’s contest against the Minnesota Vikings, Clowney was fined $35,000 for two unnecessary roughness flags, one of which was an illegal block on rookie receiver Justin Jefferson during a pick-six.
Yes, Clowney should have been penalized and fined for that block, but it simply wasn’t as dangerous and reckless as what Hill did to Carson, who was laying on the field in pain for an extended period of time. Luckily, Carson avoided serious injury and was only diagnosed with a minor knee sprain. Carson was able to participate in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Seattle’s game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Football fans and pundits knew that Hill was about to escape a serious punishment. This past Monday, reports indicated that the defensive tackle was not going to be suspended for the two penalties. With that news, the expectation was that Hill would at least be handed a hefty fine to ensure he never performs such acts again.
The NFL had their chance, but opted against it.
