The high-paid Philadelphia Eagles quarterback’s brutal start to the 2020 season continued on Sunday night.

There’s no easy way to put this, but the NFC East stinks this season. The Dallas Cowboys’ offense thrives, but their defense puts them in deep holes. The New York Giants and Washington Football Team are, well, bad. But no team has been more disappointing this campaign than the Philadelphia Eagles, and plenty of that can be credited to both the massive injuries across the roster to the shockingly poor play by quarterback Carson Wentz. Unfortunately for Wentz, his woes continued in Week 4.

In the first quarter of Philadelphia’s road contest against the San Francisco 49ers, Wentz faced immediate pressure due to his collapsing offensive line. The signal caller attempted a pass, but it was tipped at the line of scrimmage. While it looked like the ball was destined to hit the ground, 49ers linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair dove and secured it in his grasps for the interception, Wentz’s seventh of the year.

Wentz matched his 2019 interception total in four games

Throughout Wentz’s NFL career, the quarterback has been known for his ball security, as he only threw seven interceptions in each of the past three seasons. Now, Wentz has matched that number in just four games this season. That’s not good.

Plenty of fault can be given to the lack of help Wentz has had this season. Entering Week 4, the Eagles were without wide receivers Alshon Jeffery, Jalen Reagor and DeSean Jackson due to injuries. To make matters worse, Philadelphia’s offensive line has been absolutely decimated. Prior to the start of the regular-season, the Eagles lost left tackle Andre Dillard and guard Brandon Brooks to season-ending injuries. Then earlier this week, the Eagles placed Jason Peters on injured reserve with a toe injury.

It’s fair to say that the countless injuries hasn’t helped Wentz, but his decision-making hasn’t done him much favors either.
