Dak Prescott has excelled in a down start for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys were an Atlanta Falcons goof away from starting the season 0-4, which has helped the media turn up the heat on Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. While some have decided to go after quarterback Dak Prescott for failing to get the Ws in the first quarter of the season, his stats prove that singling him out is extremely unwise.

Prescott has set records for passing yards in a three and four-game span, all the while piling up yardage that would see him finish the year with 6,760 yards. The all-time record, by the way, was set by Peyton Manning in 2013 when he mustered 5,477 yards.

Dak Prescott is on pace to break several passing records

Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore clearly knows what he’s doing with regards to getting production and efficiency out of Dak, as Prescott has topped 450 yards passing in each of his last three games. Prescott totaled 502 yards and four touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns, but his team lost the game, earning him a spot next to Tony Romo and Matthew Stafford as the only quarterbacks to hit 500 yards and four touchdowns in a game without a win.

While the pass-happy attack has made Ezekiel Elliott less dominant than in years past, one would be hard-pressed to declare anything on the offensive side of the ball the problem in Dallas when their defense has issues with talent, schemes, adjustments, and effort.

There are quite a few problems with the Cowboys right now, but Prescott and the performance of the passing game are not one of them. In an incredibly winnable NFC East currently led by a Philadelphia Eagles team that is running on fumes, Prescott’s arm could be good enough to propel Dallas into the postseason if Nolan’s defense is able to stop a nosebleed.
