Andy Reid didn’t mince words in message to Chiefs after loss to Raiders

Andy Reid wants his Kansas City Chiefs players to wake up and move forward following the loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. 

NFL fans remain stunned after what went down during Week 5, with the Las Vegas Raiders traveling to Arrowhead Stadium and shocking the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-32 victory. Derek Carr was superb in that win, with the Chiefs not having any answers to stop him.

With Kansas City getting a bit of a wake-up call in that game, head coach Andy Reid was surely disappointed with his team’s effort on Sunday. Moving forward, though, Reid is calling for his guys to wash this loss off, but to also work on correcting some of the mistakes that haunted them against Las Vegas.

Andy Reid wants his defense to focus on preventing big plays moving forward

Among the negatives that stood out to Reid from Sunday’s loss no doubt were the Raiders blowing up for big plays, and of course some silly penalties committed on his side. In terms of big plays, Carr had a field day, highlighted by his 72-yard touchdown to rookie wideout Henry Ruggs.

“I try to give them a real observation at the end of the game,” Reid said via the Kansas City Star. “And penalties and big plays were what’s real. However they got the big plays (and) however we committed the penalties, we need to fix those — so that’s what’s real.

“I think if you can handle real as a coach and a player, then you should be able to fix it with some heartfelt work, so that’s what we’ll do this next week. We’ll get ourselves together, put a good game plan together and execute it.”

When looking back at the game film, Reid was surely disgusted watching Jon Gruden’s team light up the scoreboard. At the same time, the Chiefs shot themselves in the foot on numerous occasions, which obviously can’t happen if they want to make a serious run at repeating as Super Bowl champions.

Kansas City as a whole will have a chance to make Reid proud again later this week in a monster AFC showdown against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
