Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on the status of Trevor Lawrence.
The Clemson Tigers are without Trevor Lawrence this week after the quarterback tested positive for COVID-19. The news shook up the college football world and can also impact the College Football Playoff race.
Lawrence was the team’s only positive case so it is business as usual otherwise against Boston College. Head coach Dabo Swinney made an appearance on College GameDay Saturday morning and offered an update on Lawrence.
“He’s doing great. He spoke to the team last night,” Swinney said. “We Zoomed him in, modern technology and all. He’s doing well and disappointed he can’t play today.”
Dabo keeps the update brief
Swinney would not say when the team expects Lawrence back. That is newsworthy because the Tigers are taking on No. 4 Notre Dame next week in a game with Playoff implications.
The head coach went on to talk about how they have created their own bubble of sorts and avoided any outbreak after Lawrence contracted the virus.
“Our guys have done a great job of how we mitigate our meetings, how we eat and how we travel,” Swinney said. “It’s become our norm. Guys are doing a great job.”
Not having Lawrence is a huge blow for this Clemson squad. Losing more than one game with him out would likely doom the team’s Playoff chances.
The ACC mandates a 10-day isolation for players who test positive. Lawrence’s current timeline, if all goes well, would have him back for the Notre Dame game. Yet there would still be questions if he will be like his normal self after missing practice for nearly two weeks.
There are plenty of unknowns with this virus and Swinney may just have to get his updates day-by-day like the rest of us.
