Two key pieces to the San Francisco 49ers left in short order during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The San Francisco 49ers entered Week 8 with the goal of extending the Seattle Seahawks’ losing streak to two games. Prior to kickoff on Sunday, the 49ers were looking to create a logjam at the top of the stacked NFC West standings. Instead, San Francisco had to deal with an all-too familiar disaster.

In the fourth quarter, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was sacked by Seahawks defensive end Alton Robinson. Afterwards, Garoppolo limped off the field and to the locker room where he was declared questionable to return with an ankle injury. The pain and misery didn’t end there for the 49ers, as stud tight end George Kittle limped towards the locker room shortly afterwards. The team also designated him as questionable to return, but with a foot ailment.

The injury bug continues to bite the 49ers

After the game, Shanahan said that Kittle’s x-rays came back negative with no signs of a fracture, per ProFootballTalk. However,  he and Garoppolo will undergo MRI’s on Monday to get a full extent of their respective injuries. The 49ers have been bit by the injury bug far too often this season. In fact, these very two players missed some time with previous ailments earlier this season.

Kittle suffered a knee sprain in the first half of San Francisco’s season-opening game against the Cardinals, after taking a hit by safety Budda Baker. The tight end would miss the team’s next two games against the New York Jets and Giants before returning in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

As for Garoppolo, he suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 2 against the Jets, which head coach Kyle Shanahan blamed on the turf at MetLife Stadium. That was a brutal game for the 49ers, as they also lost Raheem Mostert for multiple weeks with a knee sprain and defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas for the season to torn ACL’s. Garoppolo would return in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins, but was benched before halftime due to his ankle.

The 49ers lost 37-27 to Seattle, and now have to spend the next 24-hours wondering if either of their two stars on offense will miss extended time this season.
