This AFC North rivalry might mean more in 2020 than ever before
Rivalries in the NFL add an intensified feeling to the game. For bitter ones, it’s even more exciting for the fanbases to have bragging rights. They’ll certainly be plenty of chirping for one franchise after the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers (6-0) might be the team to be in the AFC, if not the entire NFL. With their best start since the 1970s, Mike Tomlin’s roster is well-equipped on both sides to make a deep run at one final Lombardi Trophy with Ben Roethlisberger under center. Roethlisberger, who missed all but two games in 2019, seems to be on pace for another solid season despite a few tweaks due to aging play. Through six games, the 38-year-old has thrown for 1,446 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens (5-1) won’t be going down quietly. Despite their limitations in the passing game, the run game is still dominant, averaging a league-best 164.3 yards per outing. Defensively, the team only improved overall with the recent addition of pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue. He’ll join fellow former Jaguar Calais Campbell in the trenches to add pressure in any backfield for the remainder of the 2020 campaign.
The Ravens will need to improve as a passing team to justify their threat as an AFC contender. The team ranks 31st in total passing, with only second-year receiver Marquise Brown and third-year tight end Mark Andrews having more than 11 receptions. New addition
also will not be active for Sunday’s game due to the COVID-19 protocols set in place for players.
