Joe Douglas’ press conference was exactly what Jets fans feared

Joe Douglas’ press conference wasn’t great news for Jets fans
The New York Jets are 0-8 and somehow playing even worse than that right now, meaning that GM Joe Douglas finally has to come out of the woodwork and answer questions about his team. While Douglas was forthright in admitting his mistakes in the offseason, he sounded like someone that doesn’t plan on making a lot of changes when the season is over.
Douglas is apparently not considering getting rid of head coach Adam Gase anytime soon despite poor results, claiming that the embattled coach is “part of the solution.”
Joe Douglas hasn’t soured on Adam Gase
In case you’re unsure what Douglas meant here, he thinks that an offensive coach with the worst offense in the league and more losses by 20 or more points than wins as head coach of the Jets is a key ingredient in turning this around. Considering the fact that Hue Jackson was allowed to coach a third season with the Browns after a 1-31 start to his tenure, 0-16 apparently isn’t enough to get you fired in the NFL anymore.
In addition to Gase’s complete bewilderment, Sam Darnold’s regression has fueled rumors that the Jets could ditch him for Trevor Lawrence if they end up with the No. 1 pick, a future that a majority of the Jets fanbase has now resigned themselves to.
Douglas tried to put out that fire as well, as he claimed Darnold is the quarterback of the future and that it is on the front office to get him better talent around him.
The remainder of the 2020 season technically counts as the future, so Douglas might not be lying in that regard. Unfortunately, this organization needs a complete overhaul, and if Douglas can’t see that, the Jets will stay in the bottom of the AFC East.
