Even behind closed doors, the New York Jets continue to lose. Sitting 0-6, head coach Adam Gase continues to find ways to make fans of gang green complain even more.

What’s interesting is that even his coaches aren’t afraid to call him out when he’s wrong. Just ask defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and he’ll let you know head-on what the problem is just outside the Big Apple.

One week after taking a shot at Gase’s offensive production, the two coaches seem to be two peas in a pod. Williams stated Friday during his weekly press conference that his comments did not lead to further issues advancing into practice for their game against the Buffalo Bills.

“Coach Gase and I are great friends,” Williams said Friday to reporters. “We’ve been that way, we’re on the same page, we talk about all those things. That thing is no thing.”

Prior to falling to the Dolphins 24-0, Williams said that despite that New York’s defense was allowing 32.0 points a game, the issues were “not all defensively.” Gase responded earlier this week, stating that he wished two would have spoken in private instead of allowing fans to know their business.

“I wasn’t happy about it, but we talked about it,” Gase said. “Right now, our players are doing such a good job as far as trying to get things righted. It’s just that everything we say, it matters. He understood that we have to set the right example.”

What might be even crazier than the dysfunction between everything happening in New York is Williams’ later remarks. Instead of apologizing for saying what most Jets fans are thinking, he said that the situation was “blown out of proportion” by outside noise.

Let’s not act like the words pouring out of Williams’ mouth weren’t facts. New York’s offense has tumbled out of the gate, averaging a league-low 12.5 points per game. Since Gase’s calls in 2020, the Jets also rank dead last in passing yards per game and total points scored.

The franchise couldn’t find a trade partner for Le’Veon Bell and ultimately released him into the arms of the Kansas City Chiefs while Sam Darnold seeing ghosts seems like the least of the team’s concerns. And let’s not pretend America didn’t see the two get in a heated argument on the sideline last Sunday.

But sure, say whatever keeps you employed another week Gregg, we’ve all be there before.
