James Blackman has played his last down at Florida State.

Tamorrion Terry and Marvin Wilson, arguably Florida State’s two best players, were part of a group of four players that will not play another snap for Mike Norvell this season, either due to injury or a desire to prepare for the NFL.

Among those players who left in the mass exodus was former starting quarterback James Blackman. The gangly gunslinger will likely transfer after losing the starting job to sophomore Jordan Travis.

Blackman is still an athletic 6-foot-5 quarterback with enough zip on the ball to challenge defenses downfield, and that set of skills could make him an intriguing target for these three programs.

3. 833. Kentucky Wildcats. SEC. East. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Who would’ve thought that a team who converted a wide receiver to quarterback and essentially ran the single wing last year might not have the most innovative passing game? Terry Wilson’s injury and general ineffectiveness this season has handicapped the Wildcats, while much-hyped Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood has looked totally lost in his brief stints under center. With Wilson a senior and Gatewood doing little to cement his claim to the QB1 job once Wilson leaves, Blackman could start right away at an SEC school in Lexington during the 2021 season.

If Blackman wants to get the pro scouts intrigued by his potential, going to the SEC and putting up numbers has been a pretty successful formula for dozens of quarterback prospects.

The lack of perimeter talent and the prospect of being overwhelmed by superior SEC teams might scare away some transfer targets, but that could actually help Blackman waltz into the starting job with the Wildcats. If Mark Stoops figures out how to use him as a runner and vertical passer, Kentucky could make some noise in the SEC East.
