Cowboys just ran the dumbest fake punt in the history of football (Video)

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy ran the worst fake punt ever.
The Dallas Cowboys could’ve used Thanksgiving as a park that pushes them towards the postseason, but the Washington Football Team coming into AT&T Stadium and stomping them has to be extremely concerning for the overwhelmed Mike McCarthy. With McCarthy feeling desperate, he tried to catch Washington off-guard with a play call so baffling that even a 13-year-old playing Madden would be laughed out of the room for calling given the context.
The Cowboys ran a fake punt on 4th and 10 from their own 23-yard line while trailing against Terry McLaurin and Washington. Rather than getting clever, they ran a reverse to wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, and the play never had a chance to get going.
Washington made the Cowboys pay instantly
The failed conversion gave Alex Smith the ball inside the Dallas 30-yard line with a four-point lead. Washington’s offense isn’t high-flying, but they are opportunistic, and they used Dallas’ desperation to their advantage.
Antonio Gibson instantly scampered into the end zone, his third touchdown of the contest and 11th in what has been an amazing rookie season, after recovering the fumble, further gashing a Dallas front seven that was overmatched by a substandard Washington running game.
Dallas’ win over the Minnesota Vikings feels like ages ago given how they’ve let their hated rival stomp them in their own building, and the failed fake punt shows that McCarthy is clearly grabbing at straws trying to find an answer. While he hasn’t had the best luck with injuries this season, the Cowboys look totally disheveled right now, and a team like Washington beating them down to this degree in primetime has to get Jerry Jones thinking about canning McCarthy after just one season in Dallas.
