After nearly being considered a draft bust, Garett Bolles now will remain with the Denver Broncos.

In what could be a lost season for the Denver Broncos, Garett Bolles has rebounded on the offensive line. Thanks to his success, he’ll remain in the Mile High City for 2021 and beyond.

The Broncos and Bolles have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension through 2024. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the fourth-year left tackle is set to earn $68 million during that span.

Drafted 20th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Utah star was a late bloomer when joining the Utes. At 25, he struggled early against the pass rusher in the league, grading near the bottom of all offensive linemen categories.

Once legendary offensive line coach Mike Munchak joined the staff, things drastically changed for Bolles and the Broncos offensive line as a whole.

A rebound season for Bolles in the trenches

This season, Bolles currently has graded out as Pro Football Focus’ top tackle in 2020. He has yet to allow a sack from the blindside while trying to help Drew Lock develop.

“He had a great offseason,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said this week on the 28-year-old, according to the team site. “He stuck to it, he didn’t let the outside noise, which at times was appropriate, stop his determination to keep improving. I think he’s finally being rewarded for that approach. He was a guy that came out with a limited background and I knew it was going to take him time. It’s taken him time and credit to him and [Offensive Line Coach] Mike [Munchak] and ‘Kupe’ [Assistant OL Coach Chris Kuper] for bringing him along. I’ve always liked Garett. Him and I talk a lot, and I’m happy for him.”

The Broncos have their building blocks on both sides to build around for the future. With Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant, Philip Lindsay and Bolles as the foundation on offense, so long as Lock can hit as the franchise guy, things are looking up for another competitor in the AFC West.

At least Denver fans will have something to cheer for this weekend, right? After all, Sunday is going to be a long outing with all quarterbacks officially ruled out for their matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
