Adam Schefter probably needs to delete this take on the NFL’s pandemic response.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter might be the best in the business when it comes to securing scoops on the latest breaking NFL news, but he is by no means untouchable, as evidenced by his take on the NFL’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Schefter tweeted out that the NFL hasn’t had to cancel a game due to the virus. While technically true, it calls attention to the fact that the league has postponed several games while forcing the Denver Broncos to start a wide receiver in Kendall Hinton at quarterback with one day of practice.
Worth a reminder: the NFL is now on Sunday of Week 12, and it has yet to cancel a single game this season.

Twitter wasn’t kind to Adam Schefter after his tone-deaf take
With the death toll rising in this country and a team being forced to use a wide receiver at quarterback, using “no one has died” as the bar for success seems like a weird position.
Over a quarter of a million people are dead from the virus and a whole NFL team asked if they could put a coach at QB because of a COVID-19 mess...there’s nothing to celebrate here. https://t.co/ApYzBIBSt3

There haven’t been postponements, but forcing games through despite the risks has led to a situation in which a practice squad receiver is starting at quarterback for Denver.
A Tight end vs Wr what a game!

Some were quick to point out how this position is a very NFL-friendly way of thinking, accusing Schefter of licking the league’s proverbial boots.
Did the NFL write this? https://t.co/PiNnBMdc4U

The league hasn’t had the best history in terms of player safety, and that’s coming back to haunt them after their half-cocked response to the virus.

The league will do just about anything to avoid postponing games, even if it’s detrimental to the players.
Worth a reminder: the NFL won't cancel a single game even if players literally start dropping dead on the field.

If that happens, there will be a brief, fatality time out while they move the body.
Tommy Sweeney and Ryquell Armstead are battling serious health problems due to this virus, and they’d probably take exception to this tweet.
this has a lot of “the economy is booming! Look at my stock portfolio!” while ignoring 250K+ COVID deaths energy https://t.co/fLlPCLpwxX

But hey, at least no one had died! That’s a success, right?
You say that like it’s a good thing. https://t.co/mi6CjZVc0L

Schefter is tremendous at his job, but this is one take that probably needed to stay off of Twitter.
