The Denver Broncos are so desperate at quarterback, they asked the NFL if an assistant coach could play on Sunday and they got turned down.

In a wild turn of events, the Denver Broncos find themselves without a quarterback for Sunday’s showdown with the New Orleans Saints. That’s because after Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID-19, the other signal-callers on the team, including Drew Lock, have been ruled out for the Week 12 showdown due to close contact.

So, who in the heck will line up behind center for the Broncos? As it turn outs, Vic Fangio and Co. are so desperate, they asked if an assistant coach could suit up. The NFL was quick to say there’s no chance that’s going to happen.

The NFL turned down the Broncos in their request to let a quality control coach play on Sunday

Per multiple reports, Denver asked if quality control coach Rob Calabrese could suit up and play quarterback for the Broncos against the Saints.

The NFL told them that simply would not be allowed to happen. Calabrese is a former UCF quarterback, but unfortunately for him, he won’t be able to relive the glory days.

With all the usual quarterbacks on the roster ruled out for Week 12, it’s looking like Denver will have to go with practice squad wide receiver Kendal Hilton as their starter. This most certainly is what we’d call an emergency situation for Denver.

If you’re wondering how this happened, it’s because the quarterbacks were all around Driskel without a mask on. Because of that, they’ve been ruled out. You simply can’t make this stuff up. The Broncos had a tough task as it was trying to take down Drew Brees and the Saints. But now they have to run their offense with a practice squad receiver taking the snaps? Goodness. It could turn out to be a long day for Denver fans.
