Tom Brady sees Patrick Mahomes as his equal, and shook his hand.

Brady has received much flack for not showing much sportsmanship after losses. That’s fair, considering Brady is not used to losing too often. TB12 and the Bucs suffered a hard-fought loss at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday. In the aftermath, Mahomes was seen getting buddy-buddy with Brady, and dared to stretch out his hand for the GOAT.

Miracles do happen.

Brady is not a slob by any means, but he is the ultimate competitor. NFL media made a big deal of the affair after the Bucs lost to the Chicago Bears earlier this season. In that game, Nick Foles got the best of Brady’s Bucs. You’ll remember him from a separate Brady L.

Brady means no ill will in the handshake line

TB12 isn’t making a coordinated effort against the NFL’s worst starting signal-caller. That’s not his forte, and for the most part he’s been all class during his long, illustrious NFL career. That being said, even Brady hears the outside chirping every now and then, and this isn’t just a bird outside his Tampa residence.

Brady avoiding the postgame handshake with a quarterback who has bested him is a bad look, even if that QB is Taysom Hill or whoever the Broncos started this Sunday afternoon. He knows it, and he’s let his competitiveness get the best of him.

So, showing respect to a player the caliber of Mahomes — a man he is figuratively passing the torch to at this very moment — is essential. Brady is very aware of that legacy, and made good on it after a tough L tonight.
