New York Giants preparing to play without Daniel Jones (just in case)
By Mike Luciano
The Giants are prepared to start Colt McCoy if Daniel Jones’ injury prevents him from playing.
While Daniel Jones hasn’t been putting up blistering numbers for Joe Judge and the New York Giants, he’s helped the Giants pile up three straight wins as they surged into first place in the weak NFC East. All their momentum came to a screeching halt as Jones left their win against Brandon Allen and the Cincinnati Bengals with a hamstring injury.
Per Ian Rapoport, Jones has an outside shot of playing next week against the Seattle Seahawks. If he doesn’t suit up, the Giants appear ready to turn to Colt McCoy as the quarterback.
Daniel Jones isn’t putting up great numbers, but the Giants are in first place
Taking advantage of a laughable NFC East and a Bengals team playing without sensational rookie Joe Burrow, Jones did the bulk of the work in guiding the Giants to their third consecutive win. While Jones has nine interceptions compared to eight passing touchdowns, he hasn’t turned the ball over in his last few starts, showing that he is improving from a horrid start to the season.
McCoy wasn’t lighting up the scoreboard against the Bengals, but he has carved out such a long career as a backup due to his accuracy and ability to make plays on the run. Against a porous Seattle defense, McCoy could have a solid day at the office if he is called into action.
In the span of a few weeks, Jones has gone from a quarterback that Giants fans had to cover their eyes when watching into someone they are hoping and praying won’t miss a game. Jones has a tough schedule ahead of him, but the Giants are still very much alive in the postseason hunt.
