Daniel Jones left the Giants-Bengals game due to a leg injury.

Just when things were looking up for the New York Giants as they push towards the playoffs in a historically weak division, they were dealt some crushing injury news.

Quarterback Daniel Jones had to leave their game against Brandon Allen and the rest of the Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals with a leg injury following a scramble.

Jones went into the blue medical tent, forcing former Texas star and longtime NFL backup Colt McCoy into the starting role. While Jones did try to return to the game, that cameo was short0lived, as an apparent aggravation made Joe Judge put McCoy back out there.

Daniel Jones hasn’t been turning it over of late

Jones has eight touchdown passes against nine interceptions this season, but he has been playing much better of late under new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

While Jones led the Giants to wins against Washington and Philadelphia in consecutive weeks, the Giants’ positive momentum could be blunted if he misses extended time.

McCoy had his moment with the Cleveland Browns in the early part of the last decade, but he has been best known for his long career as a backup, mixing in stints with San Francisco and Washington before he signed with the Giants. His accuracy is a plus trait, but he doesn’t have tremendous arm talent.

With a more disciplined Jones not giving the ball away as much, the Giants have a legit chance of winning the wide-open NFC East. However, with McCoy, who has just four touchdown passes since 2015, under center, that task becomes much harder. If Jones’ injury is more serious than initially feared, the already wacky NFC East could get even more unpredictable in the closing weeks of the season.
